Our Policies, Procedures, and everything else in between…
-
Registration: Do I have to register?
Yes. Advance registration of your class is required prior to attending class. The good news is it’s easy and you only need to register one time for the school year.
-
Can I register now and attend later?
No. Please ensure that you register only if you genuinely plan to attend the upcoming session. Your participation is important for us to prepare adequately.
-
Does my registration guarantee my spot in class?
No, your spot is not truly reserved until a valid form of payment has been submitted and processed. This step is essential to secure your place in the program or event you are interested in attending.
-
⭐️ Am I too old to learn flamenco?
Not at all. In fact, as with any new skill picked up later in life––whether you decide to learn flamenco dance, guitar, or cante––learning something new actually helps keep your cognitive skills sharp. This key ingredient is patience. We encourage participants to simply enjoy the process. Whether you aspire to be a professional performer, or just want to move your body while making art, or are interested in Spanish culture, you will find classes and community to support you.
-
⭐️ Do I need previous dance experience?
No. Every person's experience is different. Here at CIF our criteria is simple:
• If you have not taken any dance or flamenco dance classes before,
• If you have taken a few classes here and there,
• Or, you studied flamenco a long time ago, we recommend that you start with a Level 1 dance class.
Level 1 classes are designed to help you build the necessary techniques and muscles to have a safe and pleasurable flamenco experience.
Otherwise, please contact Andréana to figure out which class level suits you best.
-
⭐️ Can I pay for class at the door?
All class purchases are managed online only and are conveniently processed through our Buy Classes portal. The process is quick, straightforward, and user-friendly, making it simple for all to register and join our classes without any hassle.
-
Missed Classes: If I miss a class, can I get refund?
There are no refunds for missed classes. Once classes have begun, payment is non-refundable and are not transferable to the next session.
-
How can I make up a missed class?
If your class meets more than once a week, any missed classes may be made up in another class offered at a different time. Classes missed due to illness or other unforeseen circumstances can be made up at a later date in another class of the same or lower level. However, you must be sure to make up your classs before the session ends.
-
I have some have dance and flamenco experience, what level class should I take?
If you’re not sure which class to embark on based on the criteria previously listed, then give one of our classes a try.
We recommend starting with Level 1., since the teaching method is a techniques builder with short choreography that’s great for all levels. In fact, many upper level dancers like taking Level 1 as a warm up before their regular class.
Just keep in mind that:
1. Starting at the beginning does not by any means minimize your experience and abilities as a dancer, but rather think of Level 1 as a reintegration process after a long hiatus, where one can gradually work themselves back into shape and reclaim their physical strength and skill.
2. The art of flamenco is a process, we may ask you to attend a different level, depending on the techniques you possess or lack and need more time to improve. This adjustment aims to ensure that you are fully enjoying your experience while also being appropriately challenged throughout your journey in flamenco.
-
⭐️ I have a busy schedule and travel a lot. Can I drop in any time when convenient?
It depends on the class size and your experience. The art of flamenco is a step-by-step process, so consistency is key. With that said, Colorado Institute of Flamenco reserves the right to cancel any class with fewer than 3 students. So, our policy is when you have gaps greater than two weeks or have trouble attending on a regular basis due to the following:
• Frequent travel demands,
• Your work schedule causes you to miss class frequently,
• You have trouble making it to class, and have limited experience in any of the flamenco disciplines i.e. guitar, dance, or cante, making it difficult to keep up or,
• distance is a factor,
We suggest moving from group classes to private lessons. If you have bought a group package, we'll adjust the cost and apply it to the private lessons, and you just pay the difference. This will ensure that you can maintain a level of flexibility in your schedule while continuing to develop your flamenco passion at your own pace. Then reintegrate to the group class at a later time. Contact Andréana to learn more.

It seems like most dance participants are women, while guitarists are mainly men. Is that accurate?
Although flamenco is a traditional art form, all are welcome regardless of age and background. Men/boys most certainly can participate in flamenco dance and women/girls absolutely can participate and learn flamenco guitar. Whatever your passions is, you will find that CIF is about community.
We carefully train and help develop your flamenco skills in a relaxed and supportive environment that encourages personal growth and artistic expression. Our experienced instructors provide personalized attention and constructive guidance, ensuring that each student feels confident and inspired as they progress in their flamenco journey.

🎤 What is Flamenco Cante?
In the flamenco art form, the element known as Cante, which refers to the song. It also plays a crucial role and most often influences how the other elements of the flamenco cuadro (ensemble) responds and perform. The individual who is performing this song is referred to as a cantaor (singer) for males or cantaora for females. These are the storytellers.
The Cuadro elements are the cante (song), Baile (dance), Toque (guitar), Cajón (a box drum), Palmas, (percussive clapping), and Jaleo (shouts of encouragement). Like a beautifully flowing conversation, the cante tells a profound and intricate story, which the dancer artfully interprets, as the guitar, percussion, and jaleo work together to create rich musical support and delightful embellishments. This collaboration among the performers elevates the emotional depth (duende) and cultural significance of the flamenco performance.
