What you’ll do.

Learn to master techniques like alzapúa, arpeggios, tremolo, picado (picking), and ragueo (strumming), over memorized repertoire to help you develop speed, agility, and accuracy, as well as rhythm.

Class is based on the techniques class originated by Alquilino “El Entrí” Jimenez, from Cañaroto, Madrid, and Flamenco Masters like Paco de Lucia, Sabicas, Pedro Cortés, and more.

Study Focus

Soleá, Alegrías, Tangos, Bulerías, Guajiras, and more. Each week you’ll learn sections of a Palo (song form) called “falsetas”, and build towards a complete solo piece. You’ll also learn how these falsetas (melodies) work in context with the dance and cante (singing).

Dance Accompaniment

By Appointment Only

Learn the palo (form) and structure of the dance while understanding how to identify the dancer’s cues. Explore the related chord structure following the cante (song) and discover how to use falsetas (melodic phrases) alongside rhythmic patterns of the right-hand technique like rasegueo (strumming), alzapúa (thumb), and arpeggios. These skills are crucial in complementing the dancer’s choreography and footwork, fostering confidence, and gaining dance accompaniment experience.

    Learn to develop a very specialized set of skills and techniques unique to flamenco guitar playing in a relaxed and supportive environment with personalized attention. In my class, I carefully train guitarists of all levels in the development of their techniques, while helping you build your collection of flamenco pieces and falsetas (melodic lines). Explore both traditional and modern forms, including influences from jazz, to broaden your musical repertoire and deepen your understanding of flamenco guitar.

    Advanced Registration Required. Requires minimum of 3 participants to run the class.

  • Intermediate / Advanced

    By Appointment Only. Specialty Private Session.

    This immersive study provides a unique opportunity for guitarists to delve deep into the complexities of accompanying a flamenco dancer. The program focuses on a variety of flamenco styles including Soleá, Alegrías, Tangos, and Bulerías, among others. These sessions are offered exclusively as Private or Semi-Private instruction. As part of the experience, students will have the chance to observe and participate in a live dance class, enhancing their understanding of the connection between music and movement.

    Pre-requisite: at least 1-year of techniques class or equivilant of 1 + years of study.

    Class is designed to work in companion with the Technique & Repertoire class or dance class
